The population that was living in poverty was virtually hopeless; it was practically impossible for them to clobber the downward spiral of impoverishment. The poverty that Brinkley describes in the 1950’s is nevertheless ab forth similar to the front time America. Peopl e in the 1950s were financially trapped due to the expansion of suburbs, the rise of engine room and discrimination, meanwhile people in present time be financially trapped due to their cause to live a life that is more than they can afford. As the suburbs expanded, many factories were relocated to the suburbs, which eliminated the opportunity that helped rather immigrants to rise up from poverty. The advancement of technology and machinery replaced the jobs of many lubberly workers. As more affluent families moved from cities to s uburbs, the less-skilled minorities moved in! to inner-city neighborhoods. receivable to discrimination, the lack of sub-standard learning and stable employment, many resorted to violence and crime.
